EFCC Detains Former Kogi Governor Yahaya Bello Over Alleged N80.2 Billion Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained Yahaya Bello, the former governor of Kogi State, at its headquarters in Abuja.

Bello voluntarily presented himself to the anti-graft agency on Tuesday, accompanied by his legal team, to address allegations of misappropriation of public funds. This development comes after months of disregarding multiple invitations from the Commission.

Confirming the detention, EFCC’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, stated, “It is true that we have him in our custody. The operatives of the Commission arrested him.”

The former governor’s legal troubles stem from an N80.2 billion money laundering case, for which the EFCC declared him wanted on April 18, 2024. Notably, his successor, Governor Usman Ododo, who had accompanied Bello on an earlier visit to the EFCC office, was absent during this appearance.
