On August 22nd, 2024, the Nigerian Muslim community gathered to celebrate a remarkable individual, Alhaji Yaqub Muhammad Aliagan, whose tireless efforts had left an indelible mark on the organization he served for decades. NUSRET, a prominent Islamic group, organized a retirement program to honor Alhaji Aliagan’s unwavering dedication as Senior Education Officer.
The event that was held at Istanbul Furniture in Opebi, Lagos, was a testament to Alhaji Aliagan’s impact, as eminent spiritual leaders from across the country attended to pay tribute.
In a welcome address by Mr. Fatih Keskin, the Director of Surat Group of company including NUSRET declared that “Aliagan working with us as a teacher in our college was a good model staff which prompted our sister organisation NUSRET to request for his service.”
“He has indeed served NUSRET uniquely too. His experience will be needed for more achievements by his colleagues.”

Similarly, Alh. Rafiu Ebiti, the chairman of the occasion, described Imam Muhammad Yaqub Aliagan as a dedicated Da’wah brother who strongly served NUSRET with high trust and honesty. He is a brother free from discrimination, carrying along all Islamic scholars and organisations, irrespective of their differences, in NUSRET seminar programs and benefits.
Prof. Amidu Sanni declared in his goodwill message that Aliagan truly showed Islamic ideal in his service with NUSRET by not enriching himself with their donation benefits meant for the poor and needy people in our communities.
“We all know some Muslim scholars who have worked in similar NUSRET organisations and failed Muslim Ummah because of their unimaginable greediness. This gathering of everyone of us here today is a testimony to personality of bother Aliagan who is retiring but not tired.”
Professor Isiaq Lakin Akintola who delivered a keynote address, praising Alhaji Aliagan’s exemplary service. “His dedication to NUSRET has been nothing short of remarkable,” Professor Akintola said.
“He has selflessly committed countless hours to upholding the organization’s values and ensuring its mission is fulfilled.” Prof. Akintola concluded that Aliagan like himself is today being rewired for more Da’wah services in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the celebrant, Alhaji Aliagan expressed gratitude to NUSRET for the opportunity to serve, saying, “I am humbled by this recognition. My time at NUSRET has been a journey of growth, and I am proud to have played a part in shaping the organization’s mission.”
The celebrant also noted that, “Shaikh Fathullah Gulam, the Turkish scholar and the brain behind the Hizmet organisation’s success in almost 170 countries, is one best scholars that our Imams and Islamic workers should emulate in DA’WAH activities.
Aliagan pointed-out that “Islamic schools and Muslim organisations’ schools and higher institutions must always be free to admit students from the community irrespective of their differences in religion language and culture.”
Adding that, “Schools, institutions and human welfare organisations established by Muslims are not compulsory to bear Islamic names and tags because Islam is meant for humanity at large.”
As Alhaji Aliagan begins his retirement, his legacy continues to inspire. His commitment to NUSRET serves as a beacon for future generations, demonstrating the power of selfless dedication and service to a higher purpose.

As the program drew to a close, Alhaji Aliagan was presented with a plaque and a gift in recognition of his service. The audience erupted in applause as he accepted the honor, his eyes shining with gratitude.
In his final remarks, Alhaji Aliagan urged the gathering to continue striving for excellence and to remain committed to the values of compassion, justice, and service. “Let us work together to build a better world for ourselves and for future generations,” he said.

Among them include Shaikh Thawban Adam al-Aloriy, the Chief Imam of Lagos state represented by Shaikh Shakirudeen ‘ Ghafar Mofesaiye, the Chairman, Lagos state Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, Professor Amidu Sanni, the Chief Imam of Lagos state University, Alhaji Rafiu Ebiti, the deputy President of Muslim Ummah of South West Nigeria (MUSWEN) and Imam (Dr) Sharafudeen AbdulSalam Aliagan, the Chief Imam and Zonal missioner NASFAT Abuja.
Other attendees by representatives are: Shaikh Habibullah Adam Al – Aloriy, Shaikh Ridwan Zughlul, Shaikh Mas’ud Ramadan and Shaikh Abdulwahab Ghamawi were highly represented by their institutions’ Umadaau.
Mentorship and Guidance
Throughout his tenure at NUSRET, Alhaji Aliagan was not only a dedicated employee but also a mentor and guide to many. He took great interest in the development of his colleagues, offering guidance and support whenever needed. His door was always open, and his wisdom and expertise were sought by many.
