The Acting Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Christy Ubah has urged corps members to be vigilant and avoid night outings during their service year.

She made the call on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of the 2022 Batch “C” Stream II Orientation Course, at the NSYC Permanent Orientation Camp, Wailo in Ganjuwa Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

Represented by the NYSC Coordinator in the state, Alhaji Namadi Abubakar, she also advised them to avoid night parties, visit to dangerous places, free car rides and gifts from strangers.

“The NYSC management is committed towards making adequate provisions for your welfare and security.

“Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other critical stakeholders with a view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year,” she said.

The NYSC boss urged corps employers to regard corps members as their children, accept them, make necessary provisions for their welfare and proper mentoring to enable them to develop their potentials.

“I also call on other stakeholders, including state and local government authorities as well as traditional rulers to give the necessary encouragement to the corps members.

“Let me use this medium to thank the federal government for its unwavering support to the scheme,” she said.

Gov. Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Sen. Baba Tela described the scheme as relevant to national unity and development.

He charged the corps members to add value through execution of meaningful Community Development Service projects in their host communities.

“You are, therefore, expected to respect the culture, norms and traditions of these communities so that you can be truly integrated into them,” he said.

The governor said his administration has accorded premium on security and welfare of the corps members, stressing that they are expected to be law abiding and good ambassadors of the scheme.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Alhaji Manu Soro admornished the corps members to put in their best towards the development of their host communities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 1,250 corps members deployed to the state completed the orientation exercise.
