The Abuja chapter of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists, NGIJ has commended the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR over the appointment of Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa as the substantive Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

NGIJ also congratulates the newly appointed Chairman on his appointment, adding that more than much is being expected from his office being a vibrant and resourceful officer with youthful energy and vigour.

The messages are contained in a statement issued in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Sunday signed by the Chairman of the FCT chapter’s of The Guild, Malam Abdullahi Gulloma.

According to the statement, “President Muhammadu Buhari has come to term with the global realities by giving the youth a place in governance.

“More importantly that corruption and corrupt practices have been identified as a clog in the neck of Nigeria’s growth and development, we therefore expect the new head of the anti-graft agency to bring his administrative ingenuity to bear at the Commission to safe the country from the negative effects of corruption to a developing country like Nigeria.

The statement said, “As Guild, we urge new EFCC boss to be fair and just in piloting the affairs of the agency at ensuring that the agency achieved the essence for which It was established while in office.

It further stated that: “For Nigeria to develop and standtall among the comity of Nations, there must be a very strong, firm, virile and independent anti-graft agency to do the needful expected of a country that is desiring genuine socioeconomic growth and development.

Adding that, “To whom much is given, more than much is being expected, noting that as a youth all eyes are on the new bride at the helm of affairs of the commission to deliver creditably-well so as not to disappoint Nigerians that are clamouring for youth inclusion in the scheme of things.

The Guild is a body of investigators, “We are promising our unalloyed cooperations and supports in all areas of our profession for you to succeed in this new national assignments bestowed on you.

“We equally advised that you operate an open door policy-administration and learn from where others made their mistakes for you to excel.

We thereby pleaded to President Buhari for more youths to be considered in both appointive and elective positions in order to bring new innovations and ideas that are conform with 21st century and modern realities.

The Guild urged EFCC boss to make his action more louder than his voice to change the narratives and perceptions in which Nigeria as a country and Nigerians as people are known for outside the shore of the country. The statement concluded.
