IEPA Honours Kazeem Sanusi for Guinness World Record on 32-hour Maths Teaching

The Ilorin Emirate Professors Association (IEPA) gathered at the Ilorin Emirate Descendants Progressive Union (IEDPU) Secretariat to recognise and honour Mr. Kazeem Akanbi Sanusi, a 400-level mathematics student at the University of Ilorin, Ilorin, for the feat he achieved in an online marathon mathematics teaching, which lasted roughly 32 hours.

Kazeem set a new Guinness World Record for the longest continuous mathematics teaching marathon, lasting an impressive 31 hours, 42 minutes, and 54 seconds.

In an address at the presentation ceremony held on Saturday, April 26, 2025, Professor Abdul Kabir Hussain Solihu, President of IEPA, highlighted Kazeem’s remarkable achievement, saying, “Mr. Kazeem Sanusi’s dedication to educational pursuit and his unwavering commitment to inspiring and serving as a reference model to his peers embody the values of hard work, community development, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge, which are hallmarks of our Emirate’s proud heritage.”

Prof. Solihu further stated, “In celebrating this inspiring milestone, the Ilorin Emirate Professors’ Association salutes Mr. Kazeem Sanusi for being a symbol of youthful brilliance and also a beacon of hope for future generations. His self-initiative in contributing meaningfully to the academic success of others reflects the enduring values of unity, service, and excellence that have long been associated with the people of Ilorin Emirate and Kwara State at large.”

He urged the youth to emulate Mr. Sanusi’s exemplary achievement and shun despicable acts, including money rituals, perpetrated by some youths.

Also, speaking at the ceremony, Professor Baba Abdullahi Alafara, Dean of the Faculty of Physical Sciences at the University of Ilorin, praised Sanusi’s dedication, passion, and mastery of mathematics.

“His groundbreaking achievement in setting the Guinness World Record for the 30 Hours Longest Mathematics Marathon Online Lesson is a testament to his dedication, passion, intellectuality, and above all, excellent mastery of the subject,” Prof. Alafara stated.

Prof. Alafara who expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Olasupo Egbewole SAN commended the supportive roles of the Head of Department and his teachers, particularly Dr. Ali Yeketi, who represented the Head of Department of Mathematics at the ceremony.

The Dean also announced the upcoming 3rd Faculty of Physical Sciences Lecture Series, Awards, and Endowments, scheduled for May 20, 2025, at which Mr. Kazeem Sanusi would be officially presented with the 2025 Faculty of Physical Sciences Excellence Award.

The National Secretary of IEDPU, Mallam Abubakar Imam, praised Mr. Sanusi for his excellent performance, saying that he symbolised one of the good things that came out of Ilorin Emirate, adding that the national secretariat of the IEDPU would organise a grand reception for Mr. Sanusi to serve as motivation for others.

Goodwill messages were given by the Dean, Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Kwara State University, Professor Isiaka Zubair Aliagan, who is also IEPA Auditor and the Dean, Faculty of Education, Kwara State University, Professor Abubakar Laaro Ibrahim, IEPA’s Public Relations Officer.

Mr. Kazeem Sanusi, who was flanked by his mother, Mrs. Kehinde Sanusi who trained him right from nursery and primary school as an orphan, and his other siblings, thanked IEPA for the honour and promised to continue to serve as a model for youths of Ilorin emirate, Kwara state and Nigeria as a whole.

Present at the ceremony were Professor Abdullahi Alanamu Abdulrahman of the University of Ilorin, IEPA’s Secretary; Professor Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi of the Department of Mass Communication, University of Ilorin, IEPA’s Welfare Officer; Professor Bolarinwa Kadiri of the University of Ilorin, IEPA’s Investment Officer; and Professor Mubarak Oloduowo Ameen of the University of Ilorin, IEPA’s Assistant Secretary.

The highlight of the event included the presentation of a cash award of N100,000 to Mr. Kazeem Sanusi, a certificate and a plaque by the IEPA’s President, Soliu.
