Gombe State-born legal luminary, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Yakubu Philemon officially presented the 2024 edition of the Weekly Law Reports to the Faculty of Law, Gombe State University (GSU) the presentation was made at the Office of the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta.

In a commendable display of professional dedication and philanthropy, renowned legal practitioner and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Yakubu Philemon, has donated the 2024 edition of the Weekly Law Reports to the Faculty of Law at Gombe State University (GSU). The official handover took place at the office of the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta.

The donation fulfills a pledge made earlier this year during SAN Philemon’s participation in the Faculty’s annual Law Week. At the event, he promised to provide the reports to boost teaching, learning, and legal research within the Faculty.

Following the initial engagement, the Acting Vice-Chancellor paid a courtesy visit to SAN Philemon in Abuja, where they explored broader avenues for collaboration, mentorship, and institutional support. During the meeting, SAN Philemon reaffirmed his dedication to strengthening legal education in Gombe State.

Living up to his word, SAN Philemon returned to Gombe not only to fulfill his initial promise but also to unveil a long-term plan to support the Faculty. His commitments include supplying the Weekly Law Reports for the next five years, supporting GSU’s Moot Court competitions, and establishing a legal chamber in Gombe to provide internship opportunities for students.

At the presentation ceremony, SAN Philemon highlighted the importance of bridging academic legal training with real-world practice. He reiterated his discussions with the Acting Vice-Chancellor and expressed a strong desire to mentor young legal professionals and strengthen the state’s legal education ecosystem.

Professor Sule Musa Tagi, Dean of the Faculty of Law, expressed deep appreciation for the generous contribution and emphasized its significance for legal research and student development.

In his remarks, the Acting Vice-Chancellor described SAN Philemon as a “special friend of the University,” praising his unwavering commitment to legal excellence. He also welcomed continued mentorship and strategic guidance from the SAN as the Faculty expands its capacity and vision.

SAN Philemon’s visit and ongoing support mark a significant step in aligning legal education with practical legal realities, fostering a new generation of empowered and well-trained legal minds in Gombe State.
