In a political landscape often defined by corruption and abuse of power, Bukola Saraki stands as a beacon of hope for a better Nigeria.

By Abdulrahman Aliagan

The Eid-ul-Adha celebrations in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, were marked by a remarkable display of political dynamics. As the faithful gathered at the Eid-praying ground to observe the 2-Rakat obligatory prayer, the former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, was met with a rapturous reception from the mammoth crowd and his ardent admirers.

The chants of “Sai Bukky, Sai Leader” reverberated through the grounds, underscoring the enduring influence and popularity of the former Senate President in Kwara politics. This striking contrast was further amplified by the presence of the current Governor, whose administration has been marred by allegations of maladministration, leading to him being largely ignored by the enthusiastic crowd.

Dr. Bukola Saraki’s political legacy in Kwara State is one that has spanned decades, transcending the boundaries of party affiliations and regional divides. As the former Governor of the state and the immediate past Senate President, he has left an indelible mark on the political landscape, commanding a loyal following that remains steadfast even in the face of changing political tides.

“Bukola Saraki is more than just a political figure in Kwara,” explains Aminat Abdullahi, a political analyst. “He has cultivated a deep connection with the people, a connection that is rooted in his unwavering commitment to their well-being and the development of the state. This is why, even in the face of adversity, he continues to enjoy such overwhelming support.”

Indeed, Saraki’s influence extends beyond the confines of Kwara State. As the former Senate President, he wielded significant national clout, using his position to champion the interests of his constituents and the broader Nigerian populace. His ability to navigate the complex political landscape and forge strategic alliances has earned him the respect and admiration of his peers, both within and outside of his political party.

The current Governor’s relative invisibility at the Eid-praying ground, in contrast to the adulation bestowed upon Saraki, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring appeal of the former Senate President. It underscores the disconnect between the current administration and the aspirations of the people, a disconnect that has only strengthened Saraki’s position as the true political voice of Kwara.

As the state continues to grapple with the challenges of governance, the enduring legacy of Bukola Saraki stands as a testament to the power of grassroots politics and the importance of cultivating genuine connections with the electorate. In Kwara, his name remains synonymous with leadership, integrity, and the unwavering pursuit of progress, a legacy that continues to shape the political discourse and the future of the state.

For the obvious fact of what transpired at the Eid-praying ground also for the love of his community, Ilorin Emirate that the enigma of Saraki Dynasty, Dr Olusola Saraki lived all his life for and bequeathed the strong legacy to the President of the 8-National Assembly, Bukola as the highest ranking traditional title of the Emirate, The Waziri Ngeri, he supposed to lead the Durbar processions after the Royal father, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari CFR, the Waziri Ngeri decided not to participate in the Durba parade so as to give peace a chance to reign.

Saraki Skips Durbar Festival for the Sake of Peace

In a move to maintain peace and order, former Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki has decided not to attend the annual Durbar festival in Ilorin, his hometown. Saraki, who holds the prestigious title of Waziri Ngeri of Ilorin, cited pressure from the state government as the reason for his absence.

According to a statement released by Saraki’s media aide, Abdulganiyu Abdulqadir, the state government, led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, had put “tremendous pressure” on the Ilorin Emirate Council to prevent Saraki from attending the event. The governor is reportedly “jittery” that Saraki’s presence would overshadow the festivities.

“We understand that tremendous pressure was put on the Ilorin Emirates Council by the Government of the state to stop the Waziri of Ilorin from attending the event. Abdulrazaq is jittery that the former Governor, Dr. Saraki, will steal the show as usual,” the statement read.

Saraki, who is the highest-ranking traditional title holder in Ilorin, has decided to stay away from the event to maintain peace and order. The decision came after respected traditional title holders and prominent Islamic scholars appealed to him not to attend.

“Regrettably, I wish to announce that for peace and tranquility, I am staying away from the Durban celebration this year,” Saraki said.

The former Senate President also expressed his love for the Ilorin Emirate community and his commitment to an atmosphere of peace. He wished the organizers of the event a successful celebration and urged the people to celebrate with moderation and eschew any act that could disrupt the peace and orderliness in the state.

The Durbar festival is a centuries-old cultural event that celebrates the power and influence of traditional rulers in northern Nigeria. It is a highly anticipated event in Ilorin, with thousands of people gathering to witness the parade of the Emir and his entourage.

Here is a news story that highlights Bukola Saraki’s doggedness, respect for the rule of law, and his advocacy for good governance in Nigeria:

A Leader Who Fights with Integrity and Resilience

In the ever-turbulent landscape of Nigerian politics, Bukola Saraki stands out as a leader who has weathered the storms with unwavering conviction and an unwavering commitment to the rule of law.

The former Senate President, has been the target of numerous prosecutions and persecutions, has emerged as a symbol of resilience and a champion of good governance.

Saraki’s political journey has been marked by a series of high-profile legal battles, from his trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Offa Robbery case, to the recent delivered at the Supreme Court exonerated his company Melrose involving any shady deal, as the apex court came out clear in its judgment that the case was “Politically Motivated ” up to the recent revocation of his bank’s license.

Yet, through it all, he has remained steadfast in his resolve to fight his battles through legal means, never resorting to extra-judicial measures or brandishing his political clout as a shield.

“Bukola Saraki has shown that even in the face of adversity, one can choose to fight with integrity and respect for the law,” said political analyst, Dr. Amina Suleiman. “His doggedness and his refusal to be cowed by the powers that be are a testament to his character and his belief in the power of the judiciary.”

Indeed, Saraki’s recent victory at the Supreme Court, where he was acquitted of the charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has only strengthened his resolve to continue his fight for good governance. He has remained a vocal advocate for transparency, accountability, and the equitable distribution of resources in Nigeria.

“Saraki’s commitment to the rule of law and his willingness to take on the establishment have earned him the respect and admiration of many Nigerians,” said Fatima Abubakar, a civil society activist. “He has shown that it is possible to stand up to the powers that be and still come out on top, as long as you are willing to fight the battle through the proper legal channels.”

As the former Senate President continues his quest for justice and good governance, his story serves as a inspiring example of the power of resilience and integrity in the face of adversity.

In a political landscape often defined by corruption and abuse of power, Bukola Saraki stands as a beacon of hope for a better Nigeria.
