The Lawrence Foundation, a grassroots non-governmental organization focused on eradicating drug abuse and promoting a drug-free society, hosted a notable townhall meeting, Tuesday at FGC Billiri.
The gathering, which attracted esteemed dignitaries and representatives from various foundations, aimed to raise awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse and gather valuable insights from experts in the field. The event began with an opening prayer and a warm welcome from Lawrence Alhamdu, the Executive Director of The Lawrence Foundation.
Pharm. Doris Amlai, one of the distinguished guests, took the stage and shed light on the serious consequences of drug abuse. She emphasized the need for collective efforts to combat this issue and urged attendees to be vigilant in their communities. Following her address, Rev. Thaba and Mr. Akula also shared their insights on the matter, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures and support systems for those struggling with addiction.
The highlight of the townhall meeting was a dynamic panel discussion moderated by Stephen Sunday La’abes. The panel consisted of Pharm. Doris Amlai, Nitta Ben, David Mele Ankama, and Dr. Danga Amos Luka, who shared their expertise and perspectives on critical issues related to drug abuse. The participants engaged in an enriching dialogue, tackling topics such as rehabilitation programs, community outreach, and stigma surrounding addiction.

Looking to the future, The Lawrence Foundation aims to officially register with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), building on its recognition from the Gombe state government. The official registration will provide the organization with additional avenues to mobilize resources and expand its reach to further combat drug abuse.
