From Shalom Kasim, Gombe
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has, on Tuesday, 2nd January, 2024, inaugurated a fresh round of food palliative intervention, aiming to reach 90,000 poor and vulnerable individuals across the state. The distribution kick-off took place at the Emir’s Palace in Gombe local government.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya highlighted the initiative’s purpose, addressing the economic challenges caused by the removal of fuel subsidies. He assured citizens that ongoing efforts, including the recent distribution to over 420,000 people, aim to alleviate the impact on the lives of the most affected.
While acknowledging the economic hardships following the fuel subsidy removal, the Governor expressed optimism that the revitalization of the Port Harcourt refinery, led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would contribute to stabilizing the situation by providing locally refined petroleum products for domestic use.
During the ceremony, Governor Inuwa Yahaya urged farmers to promptly harvest crops before the January deadline to facilitate an arrangement between farmers and herders, aiming to mitigate conflicts in the state. The distribution, overseen by Deputy Governor Dr. Manassah Daniel Jatau, is set to cover all 2,998 polling units in the state.
Dr. Jatau disclosed that each of the 114 political wards would receive cartons of spaghetti pasta and bags of rice, benefiting 25 people from every polling unit. The distribution will extend to clubs and associations identified by the state government.
Expressing gratitude, the District Head of Nasarawo, Alhaji Usman Shettima, commended Governor Inuwa Yahaya for his intervention amid the challenges arising from the fuel subsidy removal. He also praised the administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
The Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, emphasized that the continuous relief distribution aligns with Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s policy to ensure the welfare and well-being of the state’s residents.
The distribution exercise is set to continue at ward and polling unit levels across Gombe state.
