The crisis rocking the opposition African Democratic Congress (ADC) has deepened following the emergence of Sen Patricia Akwashiki as Caretaker chairman of the party.

However, the national publicity secretary of the party, Barr Ifenla Oligbinde described the development as an illegal act strange to the constitution of the party.

Oligbinde assured that the Nwosu-led national working committee (NWC) would respond to the issue in due course.

A section of the National Executive Committee (NEC) loyal to the presidential candidate of the party Mr Dumebi Kachikwu on Monday inaugurated a seven-member Caretaker Committee to steer the affairs of the Party ahead of the 2023 poll.

This is coming against the backdrop of the purported suspension of Kachikwu by another section of the party NEC in full support of the continuous stay of Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu as Chairman of the party till after the 2023 poll.

Akwashiki who accepted the offer assured that the caretaker committee to ensure the smooth running of the Party affairs adding that the constitution of the Party remains supreme.

Stressing the need for all hands to be on deck, she assured that the caretaker committee would unite warring members of the party ahead of the 2023 poll.

She noted: “We will try to go into the elections as a united front, no one person is greater than the Party, we are all part of the Party and ADC is supreme, we should all respect ourselves and act according to what is expected of us.

“The law given to us by NEC, said six weeks and we will try to work and bring peace to the Party in six weeks, we don’t want any crisis in our Party, there is no crisis in the Party, we are all stronger together and we are solidly behind our candidates.”

The Chairman, ADC State Chairmen Forum, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga called on party stalwarts to join heads in averting the escalation of the crisis rocking the party.

“You should be familiar with ADC members in your State. If you are not together they can use that against you, they can even call for ones suspension,” he noted.

Members of the party Caretaker Committee from across the six geo-political zones comprise Akwasheke – Chairman, Kenneth Odion – Secretary, Lady Anglia Johnson ” Member, Prof. Kabiru Dangogo, Manzo Ibrahim, Hon. Lesanmi Omolayo, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga and Emma Dibia.
