PDP threatens to expose Obasanjo over ‘mistake’ comment on Atiku

Plans to beg Wike for a choice of Okowa

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked former President Olusegun Obasanjo to publicly confirm his comment that he made a mistake picking Atiku Abubakar as running mate in 1999, otherwise it will expose him within 48 hours.

Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, yesterday, the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Sen. Walid Jibrin, who said he and the party had high regard for the former president, asserted that it would be disappointing if the statement credited to Obasanjo and published in national dailies was true.

According to Jibrin, the statement that Obasanjo made a mistake of appointing Atiku then as PDP vice presidential candidate is unfortunate.

“I wish to appeal to former President Obasanjo to come out openly to repeat what he has said. Whether or not he was misquoted or meant what was credited to him.

“Although he has not debunked what was reported, one can assume what was quoted to have been said by him is correct. But if he fails to openly come out and say which is correct in 48 hours, you will hear the bombardment and I will have no option but to break the egg and tell the whole world and Nigerians who Obasanjo is,” he stated.

On the emergence of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as Atiku’s running mate, which might have angered Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, the BoT chair revealed that a high-powered reconciliatory committee will soon be constituted to meet Wike and appeal to him.

Jibrin’s words: “Governor Wike is a great party man, who fought for the party. When the committee is constituted, we will also bring other contestants together and go appeal to Wike, even if it means kneeling down to beg him.

“It is our belief that in any contest, there will always be a winner and a loser, and we must take whatever comes our way as the will of God, who gives power to whoever he wishes at the time he wishes.”
