President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, signed into law two bills – the Climate Change Act – and the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (Amendment) AMCON Act.
A statement by his Senior Special Assistant, Garba Shehu, added: “The Climate Change Act owes its origin to a bill sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, Sam Onuigbo, and provides for, among other things, the mainstreaming of climate change actions and the establishment of a National Council on Climate Change.
“It also paves the way for environmental and economic accounting and a push for a net zero emission deadline plan in the country.”
This is even as the President directed Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure effective policy design on an extant report with a view to implementing some of its recommendations.
The document, entitled, Getting Things Done: Strategies for Policy and Programme Implementation in Nigeria,” was presented to the President by the Senior Executive Course 43 (2021) of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Plateau State.
Receiving the document, Buhari said the participants had done well. His words: “I am directing the MDAs and the National Steering Committee on Vision 2050 to study the report, with a view to diligently considering the recommendations presented and incorporate them as part of our overall execution strategy.”
