Adegboruwa urges police to work protesters
Oyo Police Command, yesterday, warned people planning to organise #EndSARS commemorative protests in the state to shelve the idea.
A statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Adewale Osifeso, which was made available to journalists in Ibadan, said parents, guardians and leaders that wield various degrees of influence in religious, educational and traditional capacities are passionately advised to warn their wards and proteges against being used by merchants of anarchy, as violators would be thoroughly sanctioned and prosecuted.
ALSO, Osun State Commissioner of Police, Wale Olokode, has given a marching order to the command’s personnel, including the tactical units, to be at alert and stop a year remembrance of #EndSARS protest being planned by some youths in the state.
In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, the police commissioner warned that he would not tolerate any unlawful protest/gathering.
HOWEVER, a human rights activist and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, has urged the police to exercise restraint and work with the #EndSARS protesters to achieve a peaceful and orderly protest.
Adegboruwa spoke in response to Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu’s threat to suppress the protests being planned for the commemoration of #EndSARS.
He urged the protesters to shun all acts of violence, disruption of business or hindrance of movement of persons in the course of the protests.
